Hello Guys,

Some members, time to time, ask us the question below like if we sent them a wrong not working Sim...

Why the new Japhar Sim has 6 contacts and not 8 contacts as the "old sim" on the DM box ?

This is very simple, in past, yes many year ago, the smartcard chips built in Silicium, were so large that they needed more protection to not be broken, so a bigger gold connector was used with 6 contacts + 2/4/6 more not connected contacts (as you can see you have 8 contacts, but some even bigger chips had more contacts than 8, like 10-12 on the example below but you can still see that only 6 contacts have holes/connections on the side... so only 6 were used back then, the big surface of the contact was only to protect the chip/silicium below).

Then with the technologies evolving and the masking of the chips more and more tiny, the chips became more powerful and much smaller, and from around 2009-2010 the chips became so small that a normal 6 contact gold layer was enough to protect them... and voila, you understand now why the Japhar Sim has a so small Gold contact, it's just because it's the newest technology and the chip below the gold contact is so tiny also if very powerful and with a huge memory (20 times more than chips only 5-8 years old !)... and is naturally fully working as 100% ISO 7816 standard.

See photo below, on the left the old chips that are 10+ years old, and on the right the Japhar that is the latest technology ! If someone wants to sell you a big chip, refuse it, as you are getting a 10+ old technology... choose only tiny chips as the Japhar. You will also see this on the mobile phone sims (2G/3G/4G), all the sims since 2009+ are small as the Japhar. Very old, 10+ years are big as the old chips you have in your box.
