My wife has been recording shows then after about an hour she will start watching as they still record as to not bother with adverts. But the box will restart quite a bit while doing this i am using a daily build version. What should i try firstly?

Maybe that useing a notebook hard drive or ssd drive could help. In any case a hdd which not using the 12v source, uses less amps consumption and is fast enough for recording/playing.
Other test could be, Disconnect the hdd, use a usb stick or external hdd station for recording and playback. In any case one that is fast enough for recording and replaying.
